It's already paid for.........
I saw a story recently on the news the other day about a woman who had a flat screen tv purchased for her by her mother as a gift. The woman was having her family room remodeled with a new fireplace and all the trimmings. Her mom went out to TWEETER in August, bought a 52inch flat screen plasma tv, paid cash ($3500) and a service policy ($350), had TWEETER hold it until the room was done and planned on having it delivered to her daughters' house and installed by TWEETER. So far so good, right?
Guess what? TWEETER announces sometime in November that they are closing up shop sometime around February 1, 2009. Before the woman's mom had a chance to get to TWEETER and inquire on the delivery, they tell her that a liquidator now owns all of their merchandise so she'll have to stand in line and put in a claim with the liquidator to take possession of the tv. Well merry f*ckin' Christmas to you!!
The Attorney General of Ct. has spoken up about this situation and I'm sure quite a few others as it pertains to stores in similar situations. He promised to get that woman her flat screen hook or crook!
So be very careful purchasing big ticket items from now on. I would take possession on the spot if it means loading that sucker in your pickup truck. That big name store, that pillar of the community, might go belly up , leave you empty handed and out a sh*t load of money without any immediate recourse!

How horrible! But be careful loading up that pick up truck...quite some time ago, the hubs and I were at a Best Buy getting his stero installed in his truck, while in the parking lot we saw these two guys with a huge mother TV in the box in the back of there truck, not tied down, no bungee cords....and the minute the idiots hit the gas while turning out of the parking spot....it tumbled right out and .... splat!!!!!
Gawd, what a horrible feeling in the pit of the stomach that must have been!

Actually, it's CircuitCity that you are referring to. They filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year. Being that chapter 11 is an reorganization move on their part, they may be around a while. All that chapter 11 does is allows the debtor (CircuitCity) time to renegotiate their debts and get them more manageable. They closed some of their less profitable stores and kept the more profitable ones open. From what I've gathered from employees, they seem to be doing much better than last year so time will tell. TWEETER has bit the big one though and is scheduled to lock 'em tight Feb 1!! Too bad too. They are the only main line store that serviced the middle to upper end customer with sales, service and installation.

Yeh, that would definitely void the manufactures warranty big time. I don't know if homeowners insurance would cover that.
