Gift Cards...........
Things sure have changed in one years time, hasn't it? Last year, gift cards were still considered the way to go when shopping for most of the people on your xmas shopping list, but now? Not so much.
I did my Black Friday, 2:30am arise, 3:30 arrive and stand in line at the mall, 4am stores open, I'm pushed into the mall.........and the day begins! F*ckin' amazing!
I noticed any number of stores offering their gift cards with prominent signage all around. The #1 question that was being contemplated by myself and everyone else was "if I buy a gift card for someone on my list from this place, will the store still be around after the holidays to honor it"?
The Attorney General of Connecticut has come right out and announced that any number of stores in Ct. might be out of business come spring time so purchasing their gift cards would be ill-advised. He named names!! Remember this people.....once a store announces they are going to go out of business and a liquidator buys their merchandise, that stores' gift card becomes something to scratch your privates with or be a book mark and nothing else!
My suggestion to all shoppers in the market for a safe gift card would be to buy a general mall shopping gift card. The malls sell them and they are good for use in any of the stores in that mall......except for any stores that might be in the throes of a going out of business sale, where it's cash only there.
Any thoughts to add to this?

Re: Gift Cards...........
as for gift cards? your best bet would be Vanilla Visa gift cards...available in amounts of $25, $50, or $100. you can purchase them just about everywhere, and they can be used any place that accepts visa cards, in fact...that's how i paid for my VIP membership here!!!
they are also a lot safer to use for online purchases, you don't have to use any personal information to get one.

Re: Gift Cards...........
the only drawback is that you have to pay an activation fee, usually about 3 or 4 bucks. but i've used them to pay a few bills online..and order some stuff online (not all of it was PORN... )

The Visa Card idea is a good one considering that it can be ued any freakin' place. The mall gift card is great for the mall rats on your list!

Re: Gift Cards...........
We've had general purpose goods exchange vouchers for many years in the UK. They come in a range of colours and denominations.
They have attractive pictures of a variety of famous historical British characters on one side and our Queen on the other.

Hmmm, having just read the latest announcements from our increasing desperate Labour Government, I'm not sure these vouchers have any more chance or surving next year than the ones VB was talking about earlier!!
