Is social dancing dead?
Does anyone put on dances in your area anymore? I dont think there is any dancing around here anymore outside of the clubs and saloons. And dang few live bands, mostly DJ's. They tell me that 60 or so years ago, dances were held by the volunteer firemen, the farm organizations, the fraternal lodges, and various other groups locally, that on any given Saturday night there would be at least one dance somewhere in a 20 mile radius, if not 2 or 3. Did television kill dancing, or did rock and roll?

Re: Is social dancing dead?
Our mens football club. puts on a dinner and dance every year and there is also a barn dance ever year the local farmers put on.
But there should be more in local areas to bring communities together, as they can be so much fun

Re: Is social dancing dead?
Use to be allot of "street dances" held, haven't heard of them much, some local organizations do hold live music dances still, mostly the VFW.
Now it seems that social nights hosted are all bingo and Texas Hold'em nights.

Re: Is social dancing dead?
We just recently had a street dance for Oktoberfest and our town puts on a country music dance night on the first Saturday of each month at the civic center. Can't find a place to park on the square when that's goin' on.

Re: Is social dancing dead?
There's still local live cover bands playing in the local taverns, but up in the city, unsigned original alternative music bands are as immensely popular as ever.

Re: Is social dancing dead?
I am in Austin, we are the "Live Music Capitol" andthere are clubs and places to dance all over the place. Although I must admit a great number of the venues are more for sitting and listening to live music and dancing in your seats. There are dance halls in some of the surounding communities.
