Re: Sleigh Rides
never been on a sleigh, but it can't be much different than riding on a hay wagon, pulled by a horse.

Re: Sleigh Rides
What about a Horse and Buggy ride around Central Park in NYC, or... a Horse and Closed Carriage Buggy ride?

Re: Sleigh Rides
i think i posted something abolut this last year, but i'll tell it again. When i was young, growing up on a small farm in kansas, dad wud buy old buggies, covered wagons, ect, & we would rebuild them in the winter, when we couldn't farm. One year dad found a sleigh at a old farm sale, & we rebuilt it, when dad sold out & retired, i kept the sleigh, now i wished i'd kept the buggy too. But every year, when the snow flies, i take a nice sleigh ride. It's pretty cool listening to the bells jing-a-ling as we go along.

Re: Sleigh Rides
we would just take hood off a junk car pull it around a field at break neck speeds with a 4 wheel drive and hear the bells in our heads when we flew off

Re: Sleigh Rides
ya can read Laura ingels wilder books , there is a lot of stuff in there about sled rides and racing in the olden days ,I'm sure it was cold and it was a ruff life though.
we have a few places were you can go for sleigh rides around here,a guy down the road has a team and and after the snowmobile trails close we go down them

Re: Sleigh Rides
When I was a kid my grandad had a cutter up in his barn. A cutter is a two seat horse-drawn vehicle on runners, and is probably what most people think of when they hear the word "sleigh" (Sleighs have more seating plus cargo area). The cutter was a marvel of wood-working, all curves, front and back, I dont know how a person would form the wood that way. Anyway after my grandparents were both gone, their "stuff", including the cutter, was auctioned off. The cutter was bought by some folks who use it as an outdoor Christmas decoration, and it sits out in the weather over a month every year, and has deteriorated in the years since. I go by it about weekly when it's out and it always makes me a little sad to think of the work that went into building it sort of wasted. Of course I'm sure it did get plenty of use as intended back in the old days.
