Re: Ice Fishing
I am not sure that is more fun than the laying on a dock, warm sun on your face, dangling your feet in the water. There is something about ice freezing parts that sounds like a bad idea.

I used to almost live on the ice in the winter. We always had ice houses and we where never cold. Caught lots of bottle bass, and few other fish too.

Re: Ice Fishing
yep that season is coming again and hope for 10 inches of Ice by Christmas so we can take the shack out on the lake.nothing like a little cabin on the lake. we are warm as toast inside,we also have a clam shell that we load in the 4 wheel drive truck and we too catch a lot of bottle bass and a lot of gill and crappies, pike and what ever may bite .old farms says that 10 inches of ice will hold a explorer and so far so good , i remember the time we were walking on a inch of ice chasing first freeze gills never again.I'm still nervous on 3 inches of ice and just don't like seeing the bottom of the hole.....lol

Ashkats I don't feel comfortable on less than 4" of ice I myself don't go out of my way to get out ice fishing, but my son loves it. So I do spend my time on the ice.
As long as you have a hut and heater it's not bad at all. I even have to strip of the outter layers in there!

I have a silly question ashkats.... if you use a heater while ice fishing in those little house huts my question is.... how does the ice hold up from not melting and you not falling in that cold icey water?

OH MY!! That's alot of weight, I just can't see myself doing it, I'd be freaking thinking I would fall in. I probably feel that way due to having a funky experience as a kid ice skating on a pond, and hearing the ice cracking right under my feet, I must have skated probably 100 miles per hour getting my ass off the pond.

Re: Ice Fishing
there is a lot on noise when the moon phase goes though, there is somewhat of a tide even on a lake ,the ice makes noise and cracks and stuff the water goes up and down the holes, but one time we had rain and then 1 foot and a half of snow we walked out to the shack pulling a bogon and were going slop slop though the mess the was about 10 inches of water and we got out there i drilled the hole and the water started going down like the battub all evening , we watched the holes get bigger from 6 to about ten or 12 inches and the ice was thick about 28 inches .all the water ion top the lake was going down the holes i was worried about the shack falling in ...so we left, it dropped back down to -20 and we drove right out again....
