Acquaintances Vs. Friends
You can have many acquaintances in your life time, but only a hand full of real Friends! How do you feel with this theory?

Re: Acquaintances Vs. Friends
I agree - friends are people who last through the best of time and even the worst. They are the people who you can pick up the phone after not talking to them for months and say "I need ..." and they come through. I have about 5 people I call friend. I know tons of people - but you have to be willing to trust your friends with the real you, the one that makes mistakes, looks bad and makes the wrong decisions. Thats how you know they are your friend - when they still want to be around you.

Re: Acquaintances Vs. Friends
I would tend to agree with you ladies, but there are people who fall somewhere between mere aquaintances and true friends. I've noticed that at least here in my neck of the woods, there is a tendency to stretch the term "friends" to include some of these. "Friend" is a more stretchable term than say, "co-worker", "neighbor", or "cousin". Though around here, those last two can cover a lot of territory.

Re: Acquaintances Vs. Friends
I can be a good friend to anyone who needs me, but...it's a no-strings deal, they don't have to be a friend to me...it's just unconditional, no strings kinda thing for me.
But yes, it takes a good friend to me, for me to allow myself to be open and vulnerable.

Re: Acquaintances Vs. Friends
I think you have more than a handful of friends. Of course its better when you really do get a "hand full"
