Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent, filesharing and all that !!.
I'm always open to and searching for new p2p and file sharing programs and since the questions comes up on occasion, I'll share what I find with you and invite others to share their comments, opinions and experiences on the subject as well.
My top prioty in this area is security. I've used Kazzaa and Morpheus and I could tell you plenty of virus and hacking horror stories about these two programs ! I tried Kazza lite once and didn't find it very "user friendly" and just wasn't too impressed with it, it may have changed for the better since I last used it, which has been some time ago. I currently use Winmx, and haven't had a problem with it at all, not a single virus or trojan, and no problem finding anything I want for downloading. Emule, I've heard is secure, but can be a little slow. I've just download Bittorrent, and will be trying it and emule out over the next few weeks.
I have and use Mercora, it's a p2p program that lets people share by "live web broadcasts" of files, but you can't download them . It's secure in the sense that you chose who you share files with, it's kinda fun with it's own instant messaging system and a buddy list.

I have and use Mercora,
Had it, but deleted the program when I heard it had some major security flaws. I don't know if any of it was true, but I wasn't using it regularly anyway..

Re: Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
I downloaded emule and got a ton of spyware. I know it says that it doesn't have any but it took me an hour to uninstall it and all the spyware that came with it. I run a spyware program on a regular basis so I'm positive that emule is where it came from. It also changed the way internet explorer looks and that I haven't figured out how to get back to normal yet.

I regularly use Kazaa Lite, WinMX, and Shareaza (though the last is mainly for the BitTorrent client). Well, such as "regularly" is -- I don't use them that much, really.
I've been messing around with the lite version of Exeem (the program put together by the folks who used to run suprnova.org) and haven't had much luck with it yet. The original Exeem has a spyware installer on it, so I'm avoiding that.

have had that happen too, wound up doing a system restore (easy to do) restores your system to an earlier date, where it was working ( damn fine) know you like that term,,,,

Hey, I appreciate any info on bittorrent, just downloaded my first file, a 6 min. 36 sec. porno, took only minutes and it's a very nice high quality video.
I'd like to work with it and research it more, but I have a very full plate today, hope to get back to it as soon as possible.
Curiousgirl, if you are still having problems with the spyware version of emule, let us know some details about the problems. I'm sure we can find the helpful information you need to get your computer back the way it was.

The main thing about bittorrent is that it's not really peer-to-peer, so much as it's bandwidth sharing -- you're downloading from everyone else who is downloading the file as well as from the source, and they're getting the parts they don't have from you and others, if you have them. Thus the need for trackers and the web pages and such. From what I understand, exeem is supposed to be a way around that, but I've not had it work long enough to know for sure.

Re: Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
Thanks, I have exeem bookmarked to check out later. I downloaded 3 things from torrentspy yesterday and things went very well. I have had a remote hacker,(took 3 weeks to get rid of that fucker!) and many trojans and worms from Kazzaa, I can't help but to be nervous about any downloading from anywhere.
The remote hacker came around right after Windows XP was installed, sp1 and sp2 weren't released yet and the exploits were abundant! That fucker took complete control of my computer and was running hundreds of files thru it (bootleg applications, as far as I could tell) When it got to the point that I couldn't get on the internet or do much of anything else, I got so pissed, that while re-running the network set-up,(futile!) I named my computer..."Fuck You!!", seconds after that, he popped a icon on my desktop that was labeled "no, fuck you !"
Since sp2, I've had no problems other than spyware and adware, which Ad-aware seems to take care of very well.

I downloaded emule plus from majorgeeks this morning, (I have heard there are clean versions and spyware versions of this program )downloaded some music, then uninstalled it. I couldn't find any of the problems you mentioned. The uninstall part of the program did a complete uninstall, (I did have to manually delete a folder in "program files" ) I ran an antivirus, and Ad-aware and came up with nothing.
No change in my internet explorer browser either.
I found plenty of files to choose from in each search, and I can say it was much easier to use than the previous version I had tried before. I may download it again at a later date, after I try out some other filesharing and p2p programs.

Re: Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
I didn't download plus. I tried the system restore and it told me that no changes had occured so I couldn't restore it. Oh well. Its ok. The change isn't that much so I don't mind it. All the spyware it off. I just had to go in and manually remove everything. I learned my lesson. Watch what you download.

Re: Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
If you got the emule from majorgeeks, you can report it, and they'll pull it from their site.
That's the kinda things that makes the world safer for all of us !!

Re: Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
It's been over a year since I've had any problems with downloads, geez, after the remote access hacker, I researched the hell out of things on google/groups/computer and a variety of forums till I found a few trustworthy sites to get my downloads from.
I'm having a rather good experience with bit torrent and torrentspy so far, I've been using it for two days now. I've been finding everything at torrentspy, games, music, apps, ebooks, movies, videos, etc...there's also an adult catagory, of course.

Re: Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
I've been using DC++ for 3 years already, and so far I havent had a sigle problem, no viruses, clean and safe. My recomendatition with p2p programs, use ur firewall, port-forwarding! The connection may be slow most of the time, however there's not been a thing I've looked for and I didnt find, programs, music, movies, etc.

Re: Music Downloads,P2P, Bittorrent....
Dc++ is a p2p client... look it up, its all over the net! There is a lot of .rar in there.. basically you need to share some material, the more the better cuz you can get into bigger hubs; therefore, more data.

I tried "winrar" once, didn't get to mess with it much, didn't have the time then...but I need good basic information on converting files, programs, etc...and don't be afraid to get "too basic"!
