Sleep
It's been almost a year now that I haven't been able to get the proper sleep. I've tried everything, nothing seems to work, errrrrrrr! Maybe one of these days, nights or whenever it will happen.

Re: Sleep
I could sleep, but can't, gotta take care of the old dog, the husbands wierd working hours, etc...
If you have the time to sleep, but just can't....do the usual things..turn off the computer, nice dark quiet room, if you must have a TV on, try a single voice narrated documentary...or read a book for awhile...sound machines can be good too.
Over the counter stuff will get you to sleep, but often won't keep you asleep. A trip to the doctor will get you something that will keeep you asleep all night long on those nights when you need to sleep.
Allot of people will swear by Melontin supplements, comes in all strengths and I kinda like on those rare time when I know it's not needed for me to be awake and up several times a night.

Re: Sleep
You need to lay flat on your back in a dark room, un cross your legs, arms by your sides. Relax. Listen to your breathing, concentrate on your breathing, and tell yourself from your toes up to your head, using every part of your body, that each one is relaxed, for example, my toes are feeling heavy and are completely relaxed, my feet are feeling heavy and are completely relaxed, and so on. This will take a few nights before it will work and you may even drop off to sleep for a few minutes before finishing, but keep at it and you will finally be able to do it well and fall into a deep sleep. You need to practice doing it, but it will work.

Hi tica,
Have you tried light therapy? I use the goLITE. It works for me. It resets your internal clock. I sleep alot better.

Re: Sleep
They say to keep reg.sleeping habits, like going to bed and getting up at the same time every day,I haven't tried that yet,I've had problems getting to sleep and still do,I didn't get to sleep untill after 3am last night,I think it would help to have someone in bed to hold and not feel lonely, and to take your mind off every day problems. (The roll in the hay does help a lot!)

If I have trouble sleeping I use a relaxation tape, that subconscious sounds and relaxing technique helps a lot.

Re: Sleep
TicaD, trying breathing very deeply, and you will fall right to sleep. To go into deep sleep, try HCBL's sleep like a baby, cheap and all natural, you'll be a new woman when you wake.

Re: Sleep
You might also try some sort of "white noise" generator, like a small fan set on low speed, which might drown out other commotion.

Same here, odd hours, odd days, and I can't remember the last time I just went to sleep until I naturally awoke, I'm usually woken up several times out of a deep sleep, after only a couple of hours. It's been over two years since I've been able to get any regular sleep or sleep pattern. I daydream and fantasize about regular sleep, good sleep...

Re: Sleep
One thing I found that works. Remember the wind up alarm clocks that made the tick tock noise? Well, buy one, wind it up and listen to just it. It's amamzing how well it relaxes.

Re: Sleep
I do like the sound machines, things like ocean surf, distant rain storm, babbling brooks, (ours even has a distant train with whistle) all kinds of sounds can make your mind focus on peacefull things and work pretty well.

They have recordings of whale sounds, the ocean and oter things too.
I had a demo recording of whale sounds years ago. The neighbor of the time liked to through rather loud parties. So, one night when I got home, I put the record on and turned the volume way up. In about 15 minutes, she can down to see if i was ok.

Re: Sleep
Ya know JC... the house is fairly big and I could accommodate a few but... not so sure I'd be able to sleep due to the stench and all the sounds of Baaa baaa's, plus... I don't have any sheep leather harnesses to place them in so they could fly over my bed, and no need for any sheep dung droppings either!

I thought they flew on thier own.--huh
You do have a point about the dropppings. I get mad at birds, I'd hate to think of sheep poo landing on me while trying to sleep.
