Erotic writing/reading and voyuerism connection.
I've recently discovered a need to write eroticly and while doing it got very aroused. I seldom read erotic writing and instead get very turned on by the sounds and movement in video. I started writing a story for the board the other day while I was thinking of a phone- sex encounter I had once.......or twice.....ok, alot of times, and I started to see it as sort of a voyuer experience. I had to stop and scratch that itch so to speak but this is a first for being aroused by the "picture" drawn by the story. It has become a series of story lines out of a memory from years ago. I hope those reading it can get their rocks off too so I wanted to pose some questions to help develope it since I don't normally read erotic writing.

Anyhoo,
Is it the story content or the visual that makes erotic writing erotic for you?

Must it be porn or is it something else like romance novels that does the trick?

Pose other questions and comments.

Whenever I read I alway come up with a visual of everything. What the characters looks like, scenery, smells even. I like to really loose myself in a good story.

So it is voyeuristic vs in the present reading? For it to be "erotic" I mean.

Eroticism is all about the senses but it must make a connection with the primitive impulses of my base biological functions. In other words, it has to give the little ape-man in me something to focus on that stirs base urges or it loses me. Voyuerism is too sophisticated for the little ape-man in me so it has to start with the possibility of sexual stimulation. With no porn component erotic writting is no better than distracting for me.

Re: Erotic writing/reading and voyuerism connection.
I don't think you are talking about voyeurism in the context here.
Voyeurism to my mind is watching someone doing something, usually but not always, sexual.
We make it sexual in our voyeurism. So undressing or dressing is something we all do, but it's turned into a sexual act in the mind of the voyeur . Probably because of the fantasy that might be unfolding in her/his mind as he/she watches.
And the added excitement of the possibility of being caught/exposed as a voyeur .
Having said that, and to come back to your original question, is reading something erotic, being a spectator to someone else's fantasies, a special form of voyeurism?
Perhaps that's how we are making the connection.
But you also ask about what it is about erotic writing that turns readers (and the writer as well in the act of writing; I know I get hard by writing erotica). It can be many things: sometimes a line can be enough that encourages a visual to spring to mind from the line. A visual from our memory and experience.
When I write I keep the reader in mind. And I try to make it easy for the reader. I try to avoid big slabs of text.
Text can be used to quicken the action or slow it down.
Make points clearer.
lots of adjectives, alliteration or verbs (in a row) help.

For example.

He thrust,
pushed, and teased
her aching, wanting, horny pussy
with his pulsing,
throbbing,
hard
cock.

seems just a little better this way than if it was a 'slab'
e.g.
He thrust, pushed, and teased her aching, wanting, horny pussy with his pulsing, throbbing, hard cock .

I'm still learning to write erotica myself and I love it when I come across a way to heighten the experience for the reader. And moreso if the reader gives me positive feedback.

I could probably go on and on but I won't.
Cheers

I think you are wrong when you say "it's too sophisticated for the little ape-man in me so it has to start with the possibility of sexual stimulation"

What is more basic biology than to look and be stimulated by what we see?

The trick for me is to make it about the senses. So much of sex is based in the head. If you can the emotion, the thoughts, the desire, you pretty much have your reader. Let their imagination put them in the characters place. The physical description is filling in blanks, to direct the course of actions in the story. Secondly it can betray what the subject is thinking. A sigh, a movement, a caress, in context, can give you clues as to what subject is thinking. Generally when I write erotica I also get physically excited. But then, subject matter turns me on to start with. Go figure.

Re: Erotic writing/reading and voyuerism connection.
I'm not an erotic writer by any stretch. However I read all the time. I read all types of books and short stories.
I can tell you this much.NEVER Dumb down your writing for your readers. It's insulting and it would show.I agree with Kam about everything he says. I love the way he writes. The thing that's great about reading is the writer gives you the story line and the details of where they want to lead you but your mind as the reader can interpret it in so many ways. I will give you an example: My daughter and I both read the Twilight series. The main male character was described with general features like hair and eye color and height. However the writer also said he was the most beautiful man that ever roamed the earth. Well my vision and my daughters although had the same hair , eye, color and height definitely had very different ideas of his over all look.

The main thing I would say to you is the same thing that every artist should do is work from your heart. Its the thing that makes the difference between paint by number and a Rembrandt.

If you can capture the emotion[sic]

Just thought I'd fill in the word I dropped.

Guess I'm the basic male exhibitionist, that rather than writing, I just get naked , amd put on a visual show, leaving nothing to the imagination, just pure animal lust. I would not be one to know anything about writing it.
