Disposable Goods Cost Rant
Ok, we all bitch about the price of gas, but ponder this folks. I'm getting ready for work this morning and changed the blade on my razor and saw that I only had 1 blade left so its time to get a new cartridge. A 3 pack of replacement blades for a Gillette Fusion Power razor costs roughly $15 or $5 per blade. Now in my situation, a blade lasts roughly a week, so it costs me 72 cents a day or about $260 a year to shave.
Then to the shaving cream. Its now wonder why the gel or cream comes out of the can as fast as it does - the manufacturer wants as much of it to go down the drain as possible so that you have to buy more. But it got me thinkin, so I looked at the can and its an 8 ounce can of Gilette shave gel and costs about $2.99 a can. Folks? Shaving cream costs $48 a gallon!
Now I go to brush my teeth with my Braun Oral B electric tooth brush. Trust me, I love it, it does a great job, but a 3 pack of replacement heads for that toothbrush costs about $22! What makes those little plastic things worth $7.33 each?
And finally, Arm and Hammer Advance White Toothpaste is $2.99 for a 6 ounce tube. Yep. $63.79 a gallon!
Now I know, you can sometimes find these products on sale, you can sometimes find coupons (NEVER in the case of the razor blades). And of course, I could either buy less expensive or generic brand products, hell, I could just stp shaving and grow a beard, stop brushing my teeth till they fall out and get false ones. But then I'd have to use more shampoo for the beard and buy denture products! Not a pretty thought!
Ok, Im done. Im looking forward to what you guys have to say about other every day product expenses.

Actually, I do that often. Theres been several times where there has been a coupon in the paper equal to the value of the razor and ya wind up getting it for free. Ive probably thrown out 10 perfectly good razors just for the free blade. At a local Walgreens, I went to buy blades one day and instead of being able to take the product off the rack, I had to take a card to the cashier and they get them out of a secured area.
