Driving while impaired----
Since cell phone usage is such a large distraction, ya think it should be included in the above?

Re: DWI
It's been banned in the UK for many years now. I was amazed to discover that it was still allowed in some countries, especially the litigious USA.

Re: DWI
How does a soccer mom with a cell phone in her ear and a van full of kids explain to those kids why she killed the motorcyclist she just hit at the intersection? Or, perhaps, how does an employer explain why his or her employee killed a motorcyclist while talking to a client at 80 miles an hour?

Re: DWI
I was going down the interstate a few days ago and saw a car weaving back and forth,I thought someone was drunk but it was a woman on a cell phone, and as I was going on I checked and saw that 7 out of ten people were on phones! What's it going to take to stop this from going on!I don't turn my phone on while I'm driving,my son says"what's the sense of having a cell phone and not having it on?" I have it in case I need it and I don't need it while driving,I don't think anyone should talk while driving,DWT should be illegal.

Re: DWI
I admit that I do talk on the phone while driving. I also pay more attention to my driving than the conversation.

More amazing is the fact that the state of Florida officially doesn't find cell phone use while driving, a hazard and therefore won't ban their use. Can you freakin' believe that?

Re: DWI
Phones? I tell ya, if it was up their would they know it's there? There is plenty of time to casually chat on phones, but please not at the safety of other people's lives when trying to operate a vehicle, like Studley said, they drive like they're inebriated not realizing the hazards and dangers.

Re: DWI
I truly belive that EVERY state should make a law allowing anyone talking on a cell phone while driving can be arrested and ticketed on the spot !this is a very dangerous habit along with "texting" while behind the wheel of a car !after all folks, how long does it take to pull to the side of the road, stop, make you call and then continue ?????

Re: DWI
You can be fined for taking a mouthful of water whilst driving over here now, as it can cause a lapse in concentration!!!.
I never talk on my phone, i even find my hands free distracting, so i don't even use that.

Re: DWI
I'm going to cause some controversy here. I use my hands free and talk on my phone. I don't speed, etc. What drives me CRAZY is people text messaging while driving. I am a talker so for me it doesn't change the way a drive but when you are constantly looking at your phone and texting someone that is NUTS!!!

It's that people tend to be more involved in the conversation than their driving. So, if you're one of those, then you're as much of a problem as anyone. I do talk on my phone occasionally while driving. I also pay more attention to my driving and have no problem dropping the phone if necessary.

Re: DWI
According to the SD governors office--------- The problem they are having is that laws covering cell phone usage while driving have been hampered because they don't address other forms of distractions.
However; "The South Dakota Highway patrol has always taken the stance that any distracted driver, including those using cell phones, who is driving in a manner endangering others, can be addressed with the careless driving statute."
He also suggests that if I'd like to see the DUI statute changed to cover cell phone usage, I should contact my local legislators.--------
I already sent e-mails.

Re: DWI
They are really cracking down on anything you do in a car whilst driving over here. Which I think is an excellent thing to do...cant wait till the female who's applying her make up and the male who's shaving whilst driving gets pulled over"!!!, Even though using a mobile whilst driving is illegal I still see loads of people using theirs, mostly women I sadly have to admit....why cant they just wait until they are stationary?

I was talkin' to the neighbor about this today. We agreed that it's not the teenager going 90 mph while on the phone. They keep going. It's the ones who drove with the cruise on for over 100 miles then answer the phone and the car keeps changing speed and they swerve all over.
