I really need that........
My wife is one person that needs to take at least two bags when traveling for more than a few days. Her theory is that she wants the option of 3 changes of clothes per day.
When we go away to say Las Vegas for 6 days, that means 18 outfits, plus 4 or 5 pairs of shoes.  Granted, she might wear a few items more than once during our stay but she still wants to have the choice. With the airlines charging extra fees for extra checked bags, she has come to a point that she'll have to pare down her travel wardrobe.
I don't have any problem parring down my travel wardrobe. I normally pack 3 pairs of pants or shorts (depending on weather), 3 Hawaiian shirts, 3 pairs of underwear (turn them inside out)  , 1 pair of shoes, 1 pair of sneakers and a light jacket! One medium carry-on bag will do me fine.
My wife though will fight her restrictions until the day we leave. Am I being insensitive (what, me?)  to her burden? She's hinting that she will gladly pay the extra fees to have her extra bags with her.
How can I convince her to economize with her packing?

I can not imagine you being insensitive..  We need our options of clothes and shoes, you never know what will come up. We like to be prepared.  I recommend you just suck it up and let her have her way.

Yeah, I have to agree with Goody, men kinda have it easy when it comes to traveling, just your basic, pants, shoes, socks, etc...
For women, it takes a little more, if you don't pack the right color and/or style of shoes, handbags, belts... half your ensembles are gonna be useless and unwearable.
Men usually stick with allot of neurtal colors, so mix and match is allot easier.

do you pack your bag a certain way that you'll get more in one bag? if so, maybe show her? i learned a little technique from my boyfriend to roll the clothes up all nice and tidy. Not so much for wrinkles, and takes up less space.
You'd think I'd learn some packing techniques after many years of traveling from the hometown to another town to go to school. I have learned to have extras in the suitcases that I leave in there at all time. Such as toothbrush, paste, deodrant... the necessities, that way when im packing and as forgetful as i can be, it's all there and i wont have to spend the extra money getting something i forgotten in the first place.

Hey Jis, she'll put our toothpaste, toothbrushes, medications, deodorants, perfumes, colognes and jewelry in a carry-on bag that will fit under the seat and yet.....her suitcases are still brimming with stuff......

I hear that those space bags work well, but...the weight will be the same, and if you get a faulty space bag and the air starts seeping in, you've got a big expanding luggage problem

I've had experience with those space bags. Not a one stayed sealed. Maybe I should give them another chance though. Maybe they've improved them?
WTF do you do once you've reached your destination and you open those space bags to remove those clothes and then it's time to pack for your return flight??

The ones that work with a vacuum cleaner I hear work excellent, the travel ones you roll up to get the air out...not so good,
You could use the vacuum cleaner ones and just borrow a vacuum cleaner from the hotel cleaning service when it's time to pack up and go back home...

I was thinking about maybe doing that.....borrowing a vacuum to do the bags for the return journey. Uuummmmm, I just might try that! Thanks Chazzy
