Hits twice for the same artist
Ok, so my mind works in strange ways. How about artists that had big hits twice with the same song? MTV unplugged had alot to do with that happening. Here's a couple that came to mind. What else ya got?
Reason To Believe, Rod Stewart, first in the 70's and again in the 90's
Layla, Eric Clapton when he was with Derek and the Dominos in the 60's and again in the 90's
Candle in The Wind, Elton John in the 70's and again when he re-wrote it to pay tribute to Princess Dianna after her death.
I also thought of Dont Let The Sun Go Down on Me, Elton John's hit from the 70's, but I think on the second time it was a hit, it was actually George Michael's hit that Elton John appeared on.

Re: Hits twice for the same artist
Don Henly's "Boys of Summer" was nicely redone later on....the band's name escapes me right now, but I liked the newer version as well as the original...
Speaking of The Eagles....Hotel California, both versions are so good.
Allot of songs were released as studio mixed, and live versions.
