1 song, Several Artists
That 1 hit wonder thread made me think of a few songs that were hits for more than just the original artist. I know that theres alot more but these are a couple that I thought of.
First Cut Is The Deepest, Hits for Rod Stewart, Sheryl Crowe and Cat Stevens, written by Cat Stevens
Wild World, Hits for Cat Stevens and Mr Big, written by Cat Stevens
Signs, Hits for Tesla and Five Man Electrical Band, written by Les Emerson, of the Five Man Electrical Band
Shameless, Hits for Garth Brooks and Billy Joel, written by Billy Joel

Re: 1 song, Several Artists
One song that comes to my mind is "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain." The list goes on and on..I think it was done originally by Roy Acuff. Just to name a few artists, Sheryl Crow, Elvis, Hank Locklin, I think the best version is by Willie Nelson and then Eva Cassidy.

Ummm....how many of us have heard a very young person excitedly tell us we just have to hear this really cool "new" song....and then have to tell them that's not a new song, that song was first released in our era?

Excellent point Chazzy! Thats happened to me twice recently. I mentioned in a thread a couple months ago that I played at a new bar and when I looked into the crowd, I realized that all the songs in my sets were older than any of the patrons in the bar. Talk about feeling old!

Oh gawd, I had forgotten all about that American Pie/Madonna fiasco!
I didn't care at all for the Sheryl Crowe re-do of "Sweet child of Mine" either.
"Sea of Love" beautiful song, loved the (Robert Plant) Honeydrippers version and I can't remember who did the American Top ten early version, and I believe it was also a top ten in the UK.

Oh yeah...but I figure it this way....I don't blame Roseanne, I blame the moron that hired her for that gig, if you want someone to sing the National Anthem, you hire a singer, if you hire a comedian that can't sing a note. your bad....

Did some research on Hot Rod Lincoln : First recorded by a Rockabilly guy named Charlie Ryan, who wrote it in 1955. Ryan recorded 2 versions with different bands on 2 labels. Johnny Bond covered it in 1960 and had a hit. Commander Cody covered it in 1972, and it has been covered since by Asleep at the Wheel. More than you wanted to know?
Here's another: Louie, Louie was recorded by both the Kingsmen and Paul Revere & the Raiders around the same time.

Just looking at the thread about Freensleazy's song list, is the Bon Jovi song "Lost Highway" a cover of the Hank Williams song? I'm not all that familiar with Bon Jovi's work.

No, thats an original that Jon and Ritchie wrote. Its the title track of their most recent album and in my opinion, one of their best.

I think it was the band "cake" that did Gloria Gaynor's
"I Will Survive"
I liked Cake's version...although the original is a classic showpiece of the disco era
oh not even sure of the Gaynor thing...I've got too many other things to google right now!
Vanillia Fudge did "You Just Keep Me Hangin' On" originally the Supremes maybe?
And how many artist have done "House of The Rising Sun"?
