An answer to Global Warming?
BBC report...
Switching from beef to kangaroo burgers could significantly help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, says an Australian scientist.
The gas produced by sheep and cows through belching and flatulence is a huge contributor to global warming - much more than carbon dioxide.
But kangaroos produce virtually no methane gas because their digestive systems are different.

Ummmm....I'm being a bit closed minded but I'm not even ready to give up beef for 'roo meat.

Re: An answer to Global Warming?
Kangaroo is actually very nice. Tastes good and is much leaner.
Thing is... dairy herds are the main culprits of pollution and that isn't going to stop, as there's no real alternative that everyone would take up.

Re: An answer to Global Warming?
So what does 'roo meat taste like? Chicken, pork, turtle, squirrel, lamb, alligator? Anything that it compares too?

Ok, since Kangaroos emmit less "greenhouse gases", shouldn't we save them and eat more of the sheep and cows?

Re: An answer to Global Warming?
I'm sure if we wanted to replace 'roos with cows, we'd do that in a phase out period.

It tastes a bit like beef, with fewer lines of fat. If you've had venison before you're close to the mark.
I've had kangaroo steak, and kangaroo and juniper sausages.

Re: An answer to Global Warming?
I;m still wondering why we'd eat kangaroo. If sheep and cows are the problem shouldn't we et as many as possible to ride the earth of them?
Oh!!!!, I feel very sorry for the person that has to "round up" the kangaroos for slaughter.

I've had venison, it has a distinct taste and many I know can only eat it ground mixed with ground beef, the lack of at in venison does make it dry and the ground beef adds the need grease.

Best meat is Buffalo. Lowest in fat and many other things. It's not dry and tastes excellent.

Re: An answer to Global Warming?
Deer meat is usually made into deer sausage and used in chili around here...I've actually eaten prepared deer heart once...and I have to say it was very tasty.
I have to say, I'm not at all sure how much deer and buffalo belching and farting contribute to global warming...

Re: An answer to Global Warming?
I'm sorry, but cows being harmful to the environment is just bullshit (no pun intended). Cows consume materials which are already in the carbon/methane cycle - grass, sialage etc... so whatever goes into a cow must come out, whether it be through a cow doing a smelly poo, or a human eating a cow, and then doing a smelly poo. it's all materials that stay in the system. What's adding to the greenhouse effect is materials like oil and coal which have been out of the cycle for thousands of years being used and then released into the atmosphere.
But really, the whole thing is a load of shit anyway, bottom line is we're running out of oil, and governments are trying any way they can to get us to use less, by taxing it more, artificially increasing the price, or by telling us that it's bad for the environment. Fuck sake, an entire ice age or two happened waaaaay before the industrial revolution, but global temperature goes up by what? a degree and a half? and we all panic?
But 'roo meat is nice not too different from beef. I also recommend ostritch and boar

Just my 2 cents worth, evolution is part of life's cycle right? I agree with Hap on this matter.
