I'm pissed
I'm pissed, that rarely happens, sure I get a quick passing of annoyance but I get over it oh so quickly..
But I'm pissed...I live in a rural residential neighborhood with a 30 mph speed limit, and even though that speed limit only runs about 3 blocks. good gawd, that's a few seconds of time some can't spare and they have to do double that...
Anyway, it was Friday night, I'm taking the old dog for a little walk before bed time...and there scampering on the shoulder and the highway, two tiny, very tiny kittens that had apparently just been dumped off...I was able to quickly grab both of them before a string of three cars barreled through.
How stupid, or how cruel is it to just dump them off on a highway? We have humane societies, no-kill shelters...and but yet again, another animal is now the responsibility of one of us in this neighborhood, I'm pissed, but then again, so relieved I found them last night and didn't have to scrap up their tiny little mushed corpses of the highway this morning.

Re: I'm pissed
I am with you Chazzy...I love animals. From what I understand, when people do that, they assume someone will pick them up and take care of them. Depending on where they are dropped, this rarely happens.

Re: I'm pissed
I'm assuming if they were dropped off on a highway, these sick idiots didn't care if the sweet tiny things died a horrible death or were taken in.
I gotta spend the next few days finding someone Else willing to take them or drive them 30 miles to the nearest no-kill shelter.

Re: I'm pissed
That is just so cruel, and inhumane! Here in PA, within a certain radius of all Schools, you have to slow down to 15 mph. during certain times of a school day and it is ENFORCED! Bless that law for all the children's safety!

Re: I'm pissed
I live pretty much right on the city limits of a town with a population of about 300, beyond me is just farm land, how these kittens ended up a block and a half up in the city limits, I don't know..
The last kitten that got dumped that I took in, at least that idiot used a scarf, and a hoodie, dumped the little thing at my door, knocked and took off running like hell...but at least he put the thing right at my doorstep.
These two kittens are just so young! They are still so clumsy that they have a difficult time with coordination enough to walk and play. Too young to be out on their own away from their momma.
Hopefully I can post a local online ad, make a few calls and find them a good home, if not, I'll have to suffer the expense of finding a no-kill shelter, spend the bucks on gas and the time to drive them there.

Re: I'm pissed
Oh yeah, those tiny things wouldn't have lasted an hour out there on the highway on a friday night,...it is kinda hard on me, by the time I find a shelter or home for them, I'll be attached to them, but I know I've taken in all the rescued cats I can, I just can't see adding two more at once like this.

Re: I'm pissed
You just can't be cruel to animals. Over here we've got the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and you can actually be banned from owning pets for life if you mistreat them.
It doesn't stop pets from being abandoned, but it does make people think twice.

Re: I'm pissed
We do have animal protection and resuce agencies too, but in my tiny town, there's nothing we can do but to take them in and see that they are placed in a home, keep them ourselves or take them to a shelter.

Re: I'm pissed
Chazzy dear,as you well know i am not an animal lover....BUT there is no way i can condone the dumping of ANY animal rather than trying to take care of it. there are so many different options other than dumping, such as, taking them to an animal shelter, giving them to an animal lover,or turning them over to an animal pound. like you sweetie, this just pisses me off !!!!

Re: I'm pissed
Yep, dave....there are just too many options besides just dumping them of to certainly die or be injured.
I mean geez, put 'em in a cardboard box and abandoned them at my front door ever...

Re: I'm pissed
Hubs is already getting too attached to them now, he's hinting that maybe se should just keep them...but I just don't think two more cats in this house if a good idea...I work hard everyday at keeping the kitty litter boxes clean and ordor less, each one needs daily attention and love...what I have already is nearly more than I can handle.

Re: I'm pissed
These two tiny new ones, would put the cat population in this house to a two digit number, it's so much work to constantly keep the litter clean, food in the house, to constantly monitor their health, deal with behavior problems when some cats don't get along with other cats.
The vet bills of always having one more cat to spay or neuter..
I have to keep a small drawer with a supply of medications for fleas, antibiotics, ear drops, two types of de-wormers and this year being a vicious year as far as the weather conditions are making it perfect for flea infestation, so much of my time is spent in the care and feeding of them.
I don't know, the hubs is already getting very attached to them, so am I but even if it means a heartbreak to find them other homes, I'm still sure it's the right thing to do.

Re: I'm pissed
Oh dammit...hubs is already decided the kittens will stay, I keep saying we need to find them a home, he keeps saying they HAVE already found a home...
It is heartbreaking to foster animals till they are healthy and adjusted just to give them up...but I sure didn't need anymore here....but darn they are cute.

Re: I'm pissed
These tiny kitten would probably have been easy to find homes for, but the hubs, as cold hearted as he can be sometimes...kittens turn him to puddy.
