NOT a ufo
Any one actually catch a glimpse of the space station, I'd like to hear about it, there's a complete schedule online on the when and where, I'd love to give it try and see if I can spot it, pretty cool!
**********************************************
Orbital mechanics has placed the International Space Station within easy naked eye visibility for the next few nights for our Chicago Yelpers...
Today, incredibly...the ISS will make SIX passes overhead just in one day! Most will be during the day, but we do have a couple a good bright passes for this Thursday evening...
At 8:29 pm, the ISS will come from the south and head toward the southeast, where it will dissapear at 8:31 pm.
It will look like an unblinking star, moving slowly across the stars, get brighter and then "blink-out" as it enters the Earth's shadow.
On Friday, the 23rd, the ISS will be even brighter!...where it will come from the southwest and head toward the southeast starting at 8:51 pm and blinking out at 8:53 pm.
It's always exciting to catch the first glimpse of the ISS and a challenge to be the first in a group to spot it.

Re: NOT a ufo
I've seen it, but it goes by too fast.
Just think, they keep adding to it so it gets easier to see. Then figure out how much the entire thing weighs and try to figure out why it stays in space.
It is an amazing site.

The reason it stays put in it's orbit is because of it's altitude. It is 17,500 miles from earth (the proper altitude so as not to be effected by the earths gravitational pull) and the reason it moves so quickly across the sky is because it's traveling faster than the earth is rotating (roughly 1041 miles per hour).

I knew that. The orbit is to maintain it's place. Just enough gravity so it doesn't fall to earth ,yet enough to keep it from floating away.

Re: NOT a ufo
There is a site that lists the times the space station can be seen. Keep in mind that if you have the clear weather to see it, it goes by really fast.--hehe
Can you imagine if the government secretly built this in the 50s and people saw it then?
