Okay, VB...here's the breakdown...out of 1000 Mid Westerners polled ...
62% read that question of yours, rolled their eyes and said "Yeah, like I haven't heard THAT one before....geez"
38% heaved a quiet sigh while muttering to themselves "Lame"
I would think with those big ole TV's you talk about having in just about every room, you'd stumble across a PBS channel once in awhile
They've run several great series based on small town America and the Mid Western farm regions.
If you can't find your way to PBS...just use keyword search phrases like "Social Studies of the Rural Mid West" or "Modern Sociology of the American Mid West"
Knowledge is beautiful...heresay and rumors just suck...

He does totally confuse the redneck and hillbilly cultures...they are completely different.
No shame in either but I happen to hillbilly, pure Southern Missouri hillbilly. I'm quite happy and proud of that too.

Chazzy, I'll have you know I was learned real good in publik school. I knows the difference between rednecks and hillbillys. Do you know the origin of the term "redneck"? It's not what you think! I do! Just ask me what it means. Hillbillies? I'll admit that I don't know the origin of that phrase.

As I stated in the other redneck thread, if you already knew the true orgin of this term, it seems so very odd that have been calling me, and others....coal miners???
And really now, how could a Foxworthy joke ever make any sense or even be funny, if these were jokes about "You know you're a Union coal miner if...."
Apparently there are two orgins of this one term.
I'm certain of the alternate orgin of the term redneck also. Maybe it's more of a regional thing in my area, but I am certain of it also pertaining to farmers.
