It's a damn shame.........
About a year ago, a six y/o boy drowned in his parents pool in Grennwich Ct. It seems his arm got caught due to the filter's extreme suction, in a drain hole at the bottom of the deep end. The company that installed the pool (2006), failed to install the pool to code and failed to install a safety cut off switch that could have avoided this tragedy. Even after the code was in effect (2004), the pool company's owner failed to retrofit that particular pool with the safety switch, therefore resulting in the boy 's death.
The state of Ct arrested the company's owner, charging him with a risk of injury felony and are about to try him for that crime.
My take on this is the pool company didn't want to absorb the costs of the safety switch during the initial install nor did it make an attempt to retrofit after the original installation. Either way, the company's owner is negligent in that boy's death!
CEO's of companies are often held liable for infractions of acts of their company's underlings, namely project managers. I'll bet the project manager in this case, screwed up the original estimate and went ahead with the install knowing he left that safety feature out, for fear of retribution from the owner if he retrofitted that safety feature at the company's cost.
This is just my opinion without knowing all the facts.
Does anyone have a similar story that may have happened in their local area?

This outcome was not good. She had a triple organ transplant, which went OK. However, she did develope a rare cancer that can come from transplants, and that did take her life earlier this year. What a poor sweet little girl.

Re: It's a damn shame.........
It does make you angry at this ceo of that pool company in Ct. If he wasn't aware of his company's screw-ups in the installs, he should have been. That's why he's being tried for manslaughter in the death of that little boy.
Is it me or what? Why isn't there a requirement for a filter kill switch somewhere near the pool? There are always nearby kill switches at hot tub/spas!!
