Can anyone explain it to me?
How is it even possible that there are still some people that think driving drunk is alright?
Why do some get repeated DWI's and still keep driving? Shouldn't one DWI be enough to lose a license and do some shock time?
What is it? Has the alcohol damaged that much of thier brains, do they start out sane and sober, get out somewhere and then start losing all good judgement as they get drunker and drunker? When someone drive themselves to a place to get drunk, they know when they are still sober that they are gonna drive themselves home drunk?
I dunno...the hubs works at a pretty large factory, and in the short time he has worked there, 3 employees, 2 on his own shift, have driven drunk and taken the lives of innocent people....

It's the person underneath those black gowns/robes in our criminal justice system! and who is of the "Whoville", and the dark negotiations that take place in chambers behind closed doors!

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
it doesn't matter how many DWI's a person gets...or even if they lose their license...they still keep driving illegally.
a former friend of mine was like that, drove without a license
for many years...(luckily, he rarely drives after drinking anymore) but he still drives. illegally....what finally made him stop driving drunk, he totaled his brand new suv, and to this day, doesn't even remember getting in the car before the accident.

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
Oh sure the justice system has problems of course, bad amoung the good...but I guess we all thumb our noses at it...get caught speeding, get it reduced to excessive noise,etc....
No matter what we do, we don't need to take full responsiblity for our own actions even when we know better.
We can just get negotiate to get it reduced, bargain for a deal.
Acoholism is a horrible disease,

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
Seems like Alcoholism and Drug Abuse are personal choices that are then branded as diseases, and the Justice System is where you can go to buy your way out of your personal responsibility when you get caught. Lots and lots of people, including the government, make one hell of a lot of money off this scam.

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
dear Chazzy, i dont know if you will remember my rant several weeks ago about my crazy female neighbor, but there is more news about her.....seems about 5 weeks ago on a Sat. night, she got LOADED at a local bar. well of course she was too drunk to walk, sooooo she climbed into her car and attempted to drive home. a local cop was following her and watched as she drove up on the curb, weaved back and forth and was over the speed limit too.when she reached her apt,he turned on his red lights, asked her to step out of the car and WHAM, she went berserk!she is about 5 ft 8 in tall, weighs 135 (a guess) and she went after HIM ! it ook this 6 ft 2in 210 pound cop PLUS a neighbor who stands 5 ft 10 and weighs a solid 200 pounds, it took BOTH of them to get her handcuffed and that was AFTER she tried to kick and bite the cop ! she was so wild ,at one point she yanked her pants down and took a crap IN HER OWN BACK YARD !!!now she is trying to sue the cop claiming "police brutality" ! she refused a blood, breath,or urine test, did 3 days in jail and may get away with the whole mess.sorry to mess up your thread dear, just needed to vent.....

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
Alcoholism is a freakin' personal tragedy that is brought upon one's self! You and only you are at fault. It's not a f*ckin' disease. It's a premeditated crime for you to get drunk, drive a car and either kill or seriously injure another person. Plain and simple. If you're stupid, you pay for your stupidity. You are not owed a hand holding or a group hug.....dick head!!

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
I've learned to see addiction as a disease, it may be a personal choice to take that first drink, or to drink socially, but addiction seem to be beyond any choice/
I put habitual speeders up there with drunk drivers. Habitual speeders are usually sober people with healthy brains, they just think it's cool to go fast, or maybe think it showcases their "superior" driving skills?
To me, it's not cool or superior to be so incompetent that you cannot figure out how to allow for speed limits, possible highway hazards and obstructions, what time to set your alarm for and get somewhere on time driving a legal speed.

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
Hey Dave, That woman must have some mental disease, along with the acoholism...it's such a shame that she just can't be yanked up off the streets and locked up somewhere for the safety of the public.

In England, a drink-drivers ban time is reduced (sometimes substantially) if they agree to attend a 'Drink-Drive Rehabilitation Course'!.
Ridiculous!

Re: Can anyone explain it to me?
I had just finished reading the news article on this last co-worker of my hubs when I posted this..
I do know there are people that get drunk and drive, and alcoholics who pretty much do everything drunk.
It's just such a wrong thing to do.

I think your husbands co-worker needs an intervention to be attended by the families he effected with his f*ckin' stupidity!
Following that, a gender reassignment procedure would be just the perfect ending that f*ck up human being!! jmo
