Definitely the way to go.............
I have looked at the Honda Clarity, the hydrogen fuel cell car that Honda is getting ready for a lucky group of 1500 drivers in California. The car which is slightly bigger than a Toyota Prius, will be leased to 1500 select people that I'm guessing will be home owners with natural gas leading into their homes. The reason for that is that the refueling station will be installed inside that drivers own garage and that station will be powered by natural gas. That way, that driver will refuel his car when needed. The refueling device is approximately 3ft high by two ft wide by 1ft deep. It will utilize natural gas and convert it into Hydrogen fuel for the car. No word yet on the fuel mileage ratings for the car but I'm guessing roughly 300 miles per fill up.
Honda says the pilot leasing program will last for 3years at a cost to those drivers of $600 per month including all maintenance and the refueling station. At the end of 3years, Honda will evaluate the total cost and effectiveness of the car and then plan for the manufacture of the vehicle.
I don't know about you but I'm ready to be a Honda Clarity owner right freakin' now!!

Re: Definitely the way to go.............
Maybe it's something, for whatever reason...mainly happens in my midwest area...but natural gas is kinda scarey.
There have been at least 3 house explosions up in or near hte city this year that natural gas has been responsible for.
This Honda and it's refueling system would be fantastic for people who already have natural gas piped in for heating anyway, and feel safe and comfortable with that.

Re: Definitely the way to go.............
Natural gas is the norm around here for heat, hot water and cooking. Not to many events related to it unless someone say steals the plumbing form an empty house. That being said the cost of natural gas is expected to double this next winter so will it still be a good choice to produce hydrogen fuel? Sure it would be good for experimental purposes and it would send a strong message to those countries that are raping us at the pump. In the short run I don't think it will save money but it will save the environment a bit at least so let's get it going!

I second that! I have a email all about these gas priced conspiracies, omg!

Re: Definitely the way to go.............
I'll blame the local natural gas utility companies for the explosions around here, this past winter there were quite a few, all occupied homes. Nothing left of them and so much damage to the neighboring homes too.

Re: Definitely the way to go.............
Fortunately, the explosions happened later in the day, when people were at work, children were in school, so no deaths...there were injuries, but thankfully no deaths.
It's something that you can count on happening every winter. Maybe faulty furnaces, maybe the natural gas company is slacking on maintenance

Re: Definitely the way to go.............
Most likely some of both. If I recall it take a lot of natural gas to air ratio to be explosive. Something like 50:50. So it would need to be a good size leak to take out a house...Or so the spin goes.

We are so behind in finding alternate fuels here, I'm so in agreement with that!

Re: Definitely the way to go.............
An aside to the discourse.....my gas guy told me that there are quite a few do it yourselfers installing natural gas grills and as such, don't have the requisite knowledge or experience to do the job properly. He termed it "an accidental leak, fire and an explosion waiting to happen".

I don't know about the prices going up where you're at, but around here, they should be going down! Gas rigs are being set up all over the place. You can't drive down the road without seeing one every mile or two. That's sipper's business... and it's booming with no end in site right now. The process of getting it, I've learned, is very fascinating! And dangerous!
