Re: how many of us get out and ride
Had a nice backroads ride yesterday with my hubby on our scooters. We both have Yamaha Vino 125s. Used to have a V-Star 1100 but a dog ran out on him and hit the front wheel of the bike. Tore him up pretty good. It was hurting him a lot to ride anymore but he didn't want to give it up all together, thus, the scooters. Anyway it is lots of fun and I get 97 miles per gallon.

I get out as much as I can on my 1800 but it is more fun if I had a lady snuggled up behind me on the bike. Any takers?

Re: how many of us get out and ride
I have a Kawasaki Vulcan Drifter 1500, and I love to ride, even if its just for a couple of hours. I have a solo seat but I enjoy the solitude of riding alone. But I am not opposed to riding in a group.
For the moment I am "grounded" (for medical reasons) from riding but look forward to the day when I can mount up and ride.

Re: how many of us get out and ride
My wife and I ride our Treks a minimum of 3 times per week, 10 miles each time. Sometimes our friends join us but regardless, we ride! Of course, there is a wine bar/restaurant along the way so......need I say more?

Oh I'm sorry. A Trek is a brand of peddle power bike, you know the kind you actually have to get on and manually propel. Hey, with the gas being $4+, it beats the sh*t out of taking a f*ckin' ride in the car. It's leisurely and kinda relaxing too.....and it doesn't cost a f*ckin' penny other than the initial cost of the bikes themselves. And besides, it's something my wife and I can do together!
I'm noticing a sh*t load more "bikers" this year over years past. They are saying f*ck paying all that money to go to Disney World. For a 10th of the money, you can get a bike that'll last long after a 7 day-$5000 vacation is forgotten and on top of that, you can own and operate it at zero cost.

When we had our V-Star I would have put it up against any Harley anywhere. It was a great bike.

The best compliment I received about my bike was in May of this year while on my long spring jaunt through the Appalachians. I had occasion to stop in at a Harley dealership looking for a light bulb. I was standing near my bike getting ready to leave when a Harley owner came over, checked out and complimented my bike, and then asked if it was new.
The bike is 22 years old.
Made my day!

Re: how many of us get out and ride
Won't dispute about the speed of your bike hon but there is more to a good bike than speed. I have no desire to go from 0 to 100 in 10 seconds. I ride for pleasure only. Hhmm, that sounds sort of sexy, huh? I'm not suicidal. Still like the V-Star we had. It was a great bike and we had many good times on it. Now we are happy with our scooters.

I like Harley's and alot of my friends have Harley's but none of them make fun or brag about what they have, they like to ride for pleasure and have fun,it don't have to be fast to be good!Oh by the way I have a 1980 Honda CB900C,if I could afford a Harley I'd get one but I still wouldn't get rid of my Honda or make fun about others.

I know as i have done two cross country rides on mine and getting ready at the end of august too do another one. but if i need the speed i have it and i can still get 44 miles to the gallon. i have a friend that went too far on his , it puts out a 147 horsepower and can only go 100 miles to a tank.

Re: how many of us get out and ride
Not to hijack this, butt it is sorta on the same topic! Just what kind of gas milage does a motorcycle get? I use to ride as a kid. We had a Kawasaki 90. It was big for a small bike, about the same height as a 27" road bicycle. Two cycle and went forever on a tank of gas. Back then it cost like .75 cents a gallon so who cares how the MPG was.
I've been kicking around the idea of getting something with gas now over $4.05 around here and a 60 mile trip back and forth to work everyday the old car is killing me.

There are lots of bikes out there for sale. You can easily find something around 1000-1300 CCs that will get 50 miles to a gallon and still be big enough to be comfortable and relatively safe in bad weather.

Re: how many of us get out and ride
My Yamaha Vino 125 scooter gets 97 miles to the gallon. Yup, that's right 97 mpg. It will do 60 miles per hour on a flat stretch, is fully automatic, and rides very comfortably. Has a good size trunk under the seat and you can put a basket on the rear for carrying extra cargo if you like. I highly recommend it for beginning cyclists. We had a very nice ride on the country backroads today. The weather was beautiful and so was the countryside.
