Not in my backyard...........
I sitting here, contemplating what if any effect the 12,000 miles of driving my mini van every year, has on the environment. I have become pro-active as I have cut down quite a bit of driving and in place of that, I ride my bike to and from work and to the store, weather permitting of course. I am not nor do I claim to be a "green" person but I silently practice what some "green" phonies only preach to others while they go about their typical "do as I say, not as I do" lifestyles! You know, "you drive less and drive hybrid cars' but I won't stop driving my Land Rover (15 mpg).
How do you feel about the phony "green" people?

Re: Not in my backyard...........
Well, let's see....
There is lots of oil in Alaska!
There is lots of oil in the Gulf of Mexico!
I remember reading a Popular Mechanics article when I was a teenager that technology was available as early as 1948 to get 75 miles per gallon of gasoline.
The rights to that technology were bought and put on a shelf by...the oil and auto manufacturing companies!
OPEC is controlling the amount of oil being produced.
Iraq has lots of oil, too.
Need I say more?

Re: Not in my backyard...........
According to information I was given, though not sure how accurate it is. They are saying because the laws that congress has passed, American oil companies have a very small area in which they drill for oil. Mainly they are only allowed to drill off the shores from Miss. to the southern tip of TX, and the northern shore of Alaska. All the while China and a few other countries are drilling in all the other places along the coast of our country. Oh yea, and they don't have to follow all the safety/environmental rules that American companies have to follow.
