The Ripple Effect
The ripple effect in the American economy...higher gas prices driving up the price of groceries and pretty much everything else.
Are you caught in the ripple effect? Have you had to make concessions, cutbacks, change things in your lifestyle?
Have you cut back or cut out things from your entertainment budget, changed your grocery shopping habits, are you brown bagging lunches, rethinking your errands and car trips to conserve gas?

Re: The Ripple Effect
I think everyone is and has been caught up in the "Ripple Effect" in one way or another, not just today, it's just a way of life for everyone, and how our economy and governments are running this world. Learning to be frugal in every aspect of our lives is a staple everyone of us has to abide by and live with.

Re: The Ripple Effect
I'm impacted by this, usually, this time of year, I have bags and bags of high end potting soil and mulch piled up neatly near my gardening shed, but this year it's not in the budget.
The increasing price of groceries is felt hard in this house now. Spending so much more, bringing home way less.
The gas price is a major factor, I like to visit my parents once twice a month, more if I can and now we are left to rare visits and talking on the phone, even talking about meeting somewhere halfway to visit for a while.

I refuse to purchase "less than the best" alcohol no matter what the price! (But for the first time, I'm purchasing no label groceries!)

i think it's bad, when a gallon of gas is more than half of minimum wage...

Re: The Ripple Effect
I know it's effected the food prices. Other than that, it doesn't bother me much. Don't use the car very often anyway.
Another way to look at the gas price is that many people bought large [pick-up trucks/suv] when even a regular size car would have done.
I see this often. someone driving a 10 mpg pickup around town for groceries and they rarely if ever haul anything with it. What a waste.

You're welcome. It's really a hidden conspiracy to help US tourism.

Re: The Ripple Effect
The local food pantries are getting desperate...the number of households needing them is rising rapidly and the donations dropping off as fast.
I know I haven't been able to donate much at all this year. last year every trip to the market, 5 to 10 bucks went for food pantry purchases.
After the plea from them in our local paper, just gonna have to do something for them every week.

Re: The Ripple Effect
Chazz, I run the food pantry at my church along with another couple. We have more and more people coming in for assistance due to the rising cost of gasoline and groceries. People are really having a hard time.

Re: The Ripple Effect
The price of gas hasn't changed our lifestyle much. We go on bike rides instead of car rides. We already had our Treks so now we have an excuse to ride them more this year than in the past. For this, I'm kinda glad the gas prices are a little intimidating.
I do the grocery shopping and Ive seen the prices go nuts. I grill alot of food and consequently, we don't go out as much.
