I'm with stupid---------->
That's the message I saw on someones t-shirt the other day. That says it all, in my eyes.

WTF is happening here? How did an undergarment become the national uniform? Garments with messages are all I see and I have to shake my head in disbelief. Come on, you can't put on a decent shirt with a f*ckin' collar? 'Ya gotta look like a trailer park reject while out in public? And you wonder why our society is swirling around the bowl.......ka-woosh!!!!! jmo

hey, maybe some of us just want to be comfortable? yeah, some things printed on t-shirts theses days, is just down right stupid, but, that does not mean that if i wear a plain t-shirt or my shirt does not have a collar, that i'm a "trailr park reject", it means that i'm comfy.

Well then, I guess the "take pride in your appearance" speeches my parents gave me oh so many years ago, were just BS? What, my parents were "out of touch"?

Ya know....well...you know VB, that when you posted something that puts people down for casual wear and make derogatory remarks (again) about "trailer parks" ....

MOST of us find value and quality in our lives in a very different way that you do...don't blame your parents...you're a grown man and able to think for yourself.

You really don't want to know what the majority of us think of pretentious judgmental people that flaunt overpriced designer labels all while looking down at the rest of us. We don't care to impress those pompous types at all, their shallow materialistic opinions carry no weight with us.

Still luv ya, VB...but I don't need or want to be judged by you for my practical clothing choices that suit my lifestyle...and I do not like stereotypically remarks about people who live in trailers or trailer parks and you know that already.

What reaction did you expect to get from us?

Exactly the reactions I've gotten so far! I'm still sick to death of f*cking tshirts worn on the outside. There's no freakin' excuse for looking like a slob. Sorry for the trailer park reference though!

Casual wear? Are you kidding me? I see a lot of these same people wearing nothing but tshirts as if that's all they own! Sorry, but they look slobish. What happened to some pride in one's appearance? Am I the only one who thinks there is something wrong here? I guess so......jmo

Re: I'm with stupid---------->
I'm sorry dear, but I'm just a bit weary of the apologies for trailer park remarks as I am of the trailer park remarks...

Just because you don't like t-shirts, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with wearing them, or the people that wear them.

Geez....just about every post you make is a rude put down to those that don't style their dress and hairstyle the way you think they should, or people that don't weigh what you think they should weigh, or live in housing that you approve of....I won't even begin to understand why you keep making such harsh comments when you surely know you are insulting a large portion of this site's members.
We come from different worlds dear, I'm certain I will never fully understand yours, and whoa...I have tried. I really have.

I understand what you might be trying to say, but I so object not to your opinion, but the way you present your opinion.

Re: I'm with stupid---------->
I think this whole thing could have taken a whole different road if VB just simply asked "Why don't people dress up anymore?"

Then we could have all given our opinions on that without feeling the need to ...."defend" ourselves.

For me, and the hubs, it just doesn't make sense for us to wear something we paid so much for we have to worry about getting a stain on or ruining it...our daily lives means allot of chores and dirty work, it would just be plum stupid of us to wear anything that does not make good practical sense...right now, the economy sucks a big one, the household budget needs it's funds funneled into areas that really matter!

Don't dress up a lot myself but what I wear is always clean (unless I'm working or have been working) and presentable. You strike me as a suit and tie type or button up, tucked in shirts all the time. Don't you ever just chill and wear jeans and a tee? I've been married to my man for 33 years and when I lose him (a long time away I hope) I will bury him in jeans and a sport shirt. If I dared put him in a suit he would come back and haunt me forever. And by the way, he is one of the most well respected and well liked men in our town.

Re: I'm with stupid---------->
I don't think VB was attempting to insult anyone who happens to wear a t-shirt and jeans... but sees that overall society has become overly casual.

I'm painfully aware that everyone is happy wearing t-shirts/jeans, hey, so do I. But as part of my job, and as part of my life I like to look smart.

But that doesn't mean I look down on anyone, and it doesn't mean that I can be labelled as pompous or materialistic. In fact, I am proud that my parents taught me to take pride in how I look, and that will go on to my kids.

There's always a flip side to any view which everyone has a right to air, with WN being no exception.

Re: I'm with stupid---------->
yeah, you are right. but maybe a little more tact could be used, accusing people of being "trailer trash" because they wear t-shirts and jeans is judging us, much the way that people that wear suits and ties are "pompous & materialistic".

there's an old saying "you can't judge a book, by looking at the cover".

"trailer trash" is a bad term. i lived in a trailer park for almost 6 years, the only "trash" i saw was actual GARBAGE.

Oh, I'm very certain that VB was just trying to make his opinion and statement comic, trying to be humorous...but I am truly weary of the trailer park remarks too.

Innocent, maybe check VB's "forum activity" and by reading how he refers to people by their weight, by their professions, etc...and you'll see why some know that even though it may be just his sense of humor, some don't appreciate his humor and some are offended by it...

Hey, I like the guy, VB knows I like him, but when I think his humor has reached an offensive mark, I let him know sometimes through a reply, sometimes by private message.

Chazzy has given it to me a few times when she feels that I have crossed that line between pure opinion to making observations that have or may offend some of the WN forum posters.

I am not your everyday forum poster as I like to "mix it up", if you will. I usually don't reply to the mundane posts such as "what would you do to do to the person above" type of boredom. I like to get people thinking "real world" once in a while. Give your freakin' opinions! I do not take negatives personally. With a face like mine, I've grown to accept negative opinions!

I'm with you on that one VB.

Society wouldn't exist if there was only ever consensus, and the right to air an opinion is everyone's.

I subscribe to these luminaries' stances on having an opinion.

'The fact is that censorship always defeats its own purpose, for it creates, in the end, the kind of society that is incapable of exercising real discretion.' Henry Steele Commager

Re: I'm with stupid---------->
We do have a "nice rule" here, state your opinions but don't be tossing around offensive terms like trailer park rejects all that, ya know what I mean.

It's up to abs and the mods to break up fights, and no one is happy when a post gets locked cuz opinions get out of control.

This place, thankfully...has all types of people, people of all kinds of religion, cultures, profession, lifestyles and body types...we are not just hanging out with like minded people similar to us so what we say among our friends in the real world may need to...out of courtesy...be rephrased to be posted here.

Once people are offended deeply by another's remarks, it's rarely ever kept to one thread, these people (sometimes) will develope a personal history and it will carry over all over the site. That's why absix gave us the "No politics and no religion" rule. Because those are the two things guaranteed to set off fighting...and absix doesn't like fighting...in any thread. Respect each other. We're all just human and it can be hard to ignore things, and not get pissed, or get offended.

VB, I know you don't mean to offend, you're style of humor isn't always understood or appreciated by everyone. I can say the same for myself, I can say the same for just about anyone...it's just a fact of life.

No prob, hon....just going on your "....the right to air an opinion is everyone's..."

And in absix's own words, found in the "Forum terms of use" found at the bottom of every forum page.

"....Whether a post (topic, reply), is a violation, is the sole decision of WebNaughty.com"

Yes..."....the right to air an opinion is everyone's..."
But stating your opinions can often result in consequences.

No problems, just kinda rehashing something that comes up every once in a rare while...the "We have freedom of speech so why can't I say anything I want here" thing.

I'm not trying to offend or piss off anyone, if anyone would like to write me and talk things over, rant out my ass about this, that's fine, we'll talk it over and work it out in a very pleasant way, I promise it'll be pleasant!

When I posted the original subject (oh so many reply rants ago), I had no idea or intention of hurting anyone here. What I was hoping for was some sort of consensus as to what I observed in that mall. I assumed everybody had noticed the poor choice of clothing worn by some people. I expanded on my error with my observation as to the possible living accommodations of said people. That I am sorry for. Sometimes I can be a no good, mother f*king *sshole......but a damn good gas grill cook!!

Re: I'm with stupid---------->
I need to apoligize for a few of my comments not coming out like I meant...there's nothing wrong with someone taking pride in their appearance, and bcause someone does, does not make them pompous and materialist...ther are pompous people who validate themselves with those expensive labels and judge others by thier appearance...and not everyone who wears designer labels are judgemental.

I do appreciate you understanding why the trailer remarks can be offensive, we have many good members here, good hearted, hard working good people here that I know live in a trailer/trailer park...and it just makes me cringe when I know they are going to read those comments.

On the original topic of t-shirts, I don't consider them undergarments, and many a time, I've actually had my spirits lifted by something so fresh and funny that I read on someone's t-shirt!

Now...shadddup and grill me a burger...please? Refill my Margarita too dammit...

Gees, sorry if I feel most comfortable in a t-shirt and jeans.

My choice, and frankly, I've seen many in collared shirts that aren't tucked in properly and only partly buttoned. Very sloppy. Must be something about faceless people in CT.

Now, I of course feel that people should dress how they feel most comfortable. It's a persons choice and many of us do own mostly t-shirts and jeans as those are the only practical clothes for our occupations. As far as the trailer park comment, I've met many so called "respectable" people that are more trashy than people in trailer parks.

That and you're about 40 years late with the comment anyway.

I'm usually up to my neck in yard work, cleaning the litter boxes, cleaning up the dog puke (poor old dog) and my other daily chores, anything but t-shirts, jeans and my old sneakers just wouldn't be practical....I do keep a few clean blouses, a pair of jeans and my more decent shoes in a downstairs closet for when I need to clean up a little and run errands and shop...but..there has been a time or two when I looked at the clock and reallized I had only minutes to get somehwere before closing time and had to run out in my grubbies...I wouldn't want anyone judging me as someone who doesn't care about their appearance, but just someone who had a very busy day...

Ya know, I kinda think it depends on where exactly it is that you're appearing. I mean, when I go to Walmart or to the mall, I'm not too surprised to see people dressed in whatever casual getup they like. At the garden store on a Saturday, who expects collars? But in the office at work, where the dress code should be at least "business casual", or when I go to church with my mom on Sunday, my expectations are a bit higher. If you're at the theater or at a formal restaurant, then maybe a t-shirt and jeans might not be appropriate. But what's wrong with being casual at a casual venue?

As long as your wardrobe is appropriate to your surroundings, what's the problem?

Hey Amber, you are absolutely right as to a situation proper kind of thing. Since when are tshirts proper for a nice restaurant? I've seen this occur at pretty nice places! WTF happened to proper attire rules being enforced?

As for Walmart? If I saw anything other than tshirts worn there, I'd automatically think I was in the wrong store!

Wow, this post really has gotten DEEP. VB, I'm sure you meant no harm in your post. Everyone has their own opinions as to what is acceptable. I like to see people dressed up sometimes and then again there is a time for slouchy and comfortable. If my previous post sounded haughty I apologize. Didn't mean for it to. My personal pet peeve is pants that are 4 sizes to big but I do get a kick out of seeing the people that wear them try to walk.

I'll tell 'ya, I'd have to be fallin' down, pukin' my guts out, with unearthly sounds coming out of my body (both fore and aft) , soiling my underoos out of it, to ever don an oufit you just described.

Now do you understand where I'm coming from as to my original post?

....and to me, it wouldn't matter if you wore a t-shirt and overalls or an Armani suit...it's what's underneath that really matters!

That's where I'm coming from!
