Local tourism, commerce and exports
What is your local area known for? What tourist attractions, year round or seasonal? What products is your state, county, country or locality known for?
Up in the City, it's the beer and clydesdales of course, in my more rural area its the clay, some of the best clay anywhere...every farm out here has an active clay pit, or an old one that's a pond or lake now.
Lots of wineries and vineyards. Most of the small towns were founded by German immigrants so allot of the local history and local festivals are German traditions. (My old house is German farm house archeticture) Allot...a whole lot of beer festivals.

I'm a stone's throw from Windsor where the Queen's got a little house and twenty minutes from London. It's all forest round here, and known for being a main Stone Age and Roman settlement.
No big exports... but loads of pubs. Yay!

Re: Local tourism, commerce and exports
I live in a land far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, in a county brimming with places to see and things to do amongst the most spectacular of landscapes.
There is mile upon mile of gloriously uncrowded golden sandy beaches and stunning countryside set amongst two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the rugged Northumberland National Park. We have more castles than anywhere else in England, the birthplace of English Christianity on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the historic World Heritage Site of Hadrian's Wall, stunning Gardens, picturesque towns and villages.
Yet, the guys still prefer football and the woman prefer shopping!!

The Mayflower left here and came over there!!
We get all the big liners here
We have castles and abbeys and Florence Nightingale worked in the local park tending the soldiers in WW1.
The Titanic was here.
We export the english and import the rest of Europe!! (sorry if thats too political!!)
We are surrounded by beaches and ancient forests, steeped in history.

Re: Local tourism, commerce and exports
I posted about my local area... but how could I forget London? Greatest city on earth (unless you live in it).
I'm close enough to enjoy it. Far enough away to relax. Plus Hampshire's a fab county.

Re: Local tourism, commerce and exports
The best compromise is to enjoy it and live far enough away from it!!
