Spring rituals
You got any?
I'm chomping at the bit to do the spring cleaning, scrubing down all the walls, washing all the curtains, packing away heavy dark winter things and bringing out all the light airy summer things...my husband gets anxious to fire up the riding lawn mower, I'm looking forward to that first pile of BBQ meat fresh off the grill...Sunday car trips with the windows down.
(sigh) dammit...actually...i could be seeing snow flurries during the night...

Re: Spring rituals
Oh yeah mushroom hunting! I have been just dying to spend the whole day hiking along the wooded river bottoms for shrooms even though I don't really like Morels that much, I'm dying for a day along the dry creek beds hunting arrowheads.
Awww dammit!! I just thought about the sassafrass! That's a feburary thing to do! I missed sassafrass root digging season! Dammit dammit dammit...I just love that stuff too.

Re: Spring rituals
I don't really know one kind from the other...I just know they are really cool old pointed rocks!
Now mushrooms...I do know my mushrooms!
Indian game balls are always cool to find, I've even found some old pioneer fired and glazed marbles. Artifacts of any kind are just freakin' great!

Re: Spring rituals
Truffles, I beleive actually grow under ground and they use pigs and hogs to sniff them out...morels grow above ground.

Re: Spring rituals
Well hell, next season, I'll dig you up some fine roots and mail them to ya!
Geez, they just smell good having them in the house, but man....a cup of freah sassafrass tea is heaven...considered the spring tonic around here, (smells and tastes like a very strong root beer)

Re: Spring rituals
Around here, the sassafrass grows along the fence lines, in fFburary, they are bare small trees usually no taller than 6 foot and they are easy to find that time of year cuz they are red, once you dig up the root, you know for sure you have the right thing, cuz it's smells so strong, just like root beer, ya just let it dry for about a week, and boil it down in water for tea...
