Personal Touch
I have business clients that I have never met face-to-face.
I can't remember, the last time I received a handwritten letter, or the last time I took a film to be developed in a studio.
I receive more e-card greetings than postage sent cards, and I chat more on Instant Messenger than I do on the phone.
Technology has come a very long way, and as brilliant as it is, there are times when I do miss that 'personal touch'.
What d'ya reckon?

Re: Personal Touch
I'm pretty isolated with my lifestyle now, so internet is how I keep in touch and socially interact...I still use the phone for family...gotta hear their voices, and love selecting special greeting cards for special occasions.

Re: Personal Touch
I for a few reasons don't like technology as far as internet goes for personal touch.
I think the old ways should still be done because you know that they put more than just a few seconds into sending you a note or whatever it may be. And it does feel good to get a card and such through snail mail, other than just bills and junk mail.
Messengers are alright to a point, but can cause inflicts. Through the phone, you know the tone that you're getting from the other person and doesn't leave you wondering if what they said is good or bad, when on the messenger, all you're getting is just words.

I agree! talking on the phone or getting a card or letter in the mail is much better,I'd love to get more then bills and junk mail in my mail box

Re: Personal Touch
I'm up the creek without a paddle if I don't take advantage of both.
I need technology and all it brings to be able to do my job. (Though I did start out my design days using pens, ink and tons of paper).
Thing is though, the only way to make the technology worth it's weight in gold is to deal with people face to face, to discuss and see reactions of clients.
I love how technology has made it easier for people every to connect to each other, but there's nothing like looking someone in the eye.

Re: Personal Touch
Good point libs, its so easy for people now to type and email letters, send a text rather then talk, but sometimes the personal way is the best way.

I think that this has been a problem for a long time. Technology is important for both personal and especially business but face to face meetings have become rare.

The excitement and anticipation of receiving something through the post!, not the same if receiving something electronically. Miss the personal touch and knowing what effort it took to send a card or letter makes you appreciate it more.

I totally agree with you, there's nothing like receiving a sweet, simple card from someone in the mail, and the thought fullness of their kind heart. Sending via e-mail is okay, especially if they are online friends, or acquaintances, which I enjoy their gratitude too. When one thinks of me whether personal or impersonal, it touches my heart.

NRG, you got it right, on the head of the nail with that one, and you linger for more than 45 minutes at times, then when you finally get a person, you are so enraged, trying to keep you cool, and if that person has a PMS thing going whether female or male, I just tell them, I'll call ya back, something came up, as I won't deal with arseholes in that category.

Then you wonder why our diplomacy and country is what it is today, sending off work to other countries for a cheaper rate, oh please... give me a break, then you wonder why we are in a recession. lol
