Can you hear me now?
The latest out of that booming economic and political success story known as CUBA! The leader of that backward-ass social disaster has decreed that he is now allowing the poor citizens of CUBA to possess cell phones!! Wow, what a step forward, huh? Yeh, the don't need any other modern conveniences in Camelot, do they?

And they can buy scooters and DVD players. Needless to say, that DVD player will probably cost them a month's salary.
Maybe they will come around like V'nam. Keeping your people in the stone age will just make them resent you - at least the smart, entrepreneurs will say.
For the lazy and poor, they love Castro.

I have always been a supporter of the US trading with CUBA and therefore inundating the populace of that country with the taste and conveniences of western culture ie: the USA!!
How long do you think Castro and his have nothing culture would have been tolerated by the Cuban people? Why do you think the Soviet Union and it's totalitarian regime imploded? They made the supreme mistake of allowing the western culture to meld into the people's everyday life and then when they were faced with standing in line for a loaf of bread, the writing was on the wall. That regime was doomed. North Korea has chosen not to make that same mistake. It is a closed society and will remain that way until that government changes it's policy and allows western culture in.

Well, now PC are allowed in Cuba, but you have to have a special permit issued to use the internet.
Also, a few other things are now allowed, mopeds and ...rice cookers!

Re: Can you hear me now?
Trade should have been normalized with Cuba more than 30 years ago. It wasn't because of politicians. No other reason. Cuba has not been a military threat since communism fell in Russia.
