Prostitution
After reading yet another story of a local guy getting busted for using a prostitute, it got me thinking into why it can't be legalised worldwide?

Is paying someone for sex, really such a "crime"? I don't think so.

Re: Prostitution
I agree Lib, Prostitution should be legalized worldwide with strict government guide lines. They could be placed under the UN or the World Health Organization, to ensure and promote health and safety. These organizations could tax and regulate the working girls or guys (because I believe in equality), the money collected from taxing could go to support world hunger, health, and education of countries hit with natural and man made disasters.
Make sense so to you??

Re: Prostitution
Prostitution should be legalized. The thing is, if it is legalized, it's not going to stop the common street walker/ crack whore who'd only out to rip people off. Not to mention what ya can get from 'em.

Police deparments spend milions per year to curb these activities. No, legalzing it won't elimate what I mentioned, which is the REAL problem.

Re: Prostitution
I think it should be legal, the girls will be kept safe and healthy.
There will be girls who will be happy to fulfil fetishes which will keep things controlled and safe. The government would be able to claim business tax which can be put into the health service and education.
Sex has been around for so long, it shouldn't matter whether someone wants to pay for it. If all concerned are consenting and kept safe, it's not a bad thing.

Re: Prostitution
Just watched a two hour news documentary on "Prosstituition In America"
It seems even the girls working in legal safe brothels still have a high rate of drug abuse and depression disorders...I guess there are no real "Happy Hookers"...
The story did cover countries where getting paid for sex is legal, it's the one paying for it that get busted.

Re: Prostitution
It's not a matter of legalising prostitution and saying 'away you go.' The only way girls would be kept safe and happy would be from governments taking an official interest in how brothels are managed, how the girls welfare is taken into account and how custom is vetted and controlled.

There's welfare, health and safety, best practice legislation for all other types of business, so why should this be any different.

Re: Prostitution
if "the powers that be" would be smart enough to legalize prostitution here in the U.S., then taxed fairly, our national debt would disappear in two years,or less !!!!!

Re: Prostitution
In my line of work i have defended a couple of girls selling their bodies, and they would love to be able to have a safe place to meet clients and have someone looking after them, without taking all their money.
For some girls and boys, this is the only life they know and if someone was to make sure their health and safety was taken care of, their life made be made slightly bearable.

Re: Prostitution
I agree, prostitution should be legal for anyone above the age of consent. The industury should be regulated, and prostitutes rebranded as "Adult Entertainment Consultants" to do away with any stigma.

Of course nobody should be allowed to practice without a licence - we're not talking about chiropody here! Ladies (and men, I'm not judging) must pass certain standards of personal hygene, physical ability and, needless to say, posess an adequate degree of aesthetic beauty.
The sooner the better, I say!

Yep, as long as there is crack, there will be street walking crack whores....so just legalizing and regulation will keep the pretty ones safe, but our streets will be the same....but, I beleive it's more common for the crack whores (wish there was a better term or name for these women really)...anyway, it's more common for the women to get ripped off than for them to rip off their johns.

When I'm in charge, I'm going to make crime illegal, that will solve all the problems

Re: Prostitution
In legal brothels, a client can expect to pay up to a couple of thousand bucks an hour, the brothel gets half.
The cost of running the business and keeping the girls "safe and healthy" just means that the average guy can't afford a safe and healthy hooker.

...and Hap, take charge anytime you wanna!

In my tiny town, a guy can probably get him a night of fun and sex for a 12 pack and a couple of cheeseburgers.

I think the point pretty was making was, just because someone is a prostitute doesn't mean they will rip you off, anyone can do that!!!
I don't see why sarcasm is needed towards people giving their opinion.

Re: Prostitution
Let's not "go there" again...

Threads tend to go in directions and take on a life of their own, and I'm not gonna split hairs about what is off topic or not, it just freaks people out to where they are hesitate to post...as long as it's an earnest discussion related to the topic, as long as it all follows a train of thought.

I only discourage rampant hijacking which I always describe as "a private chat or joke between a few people unrelated to the topic that goes on for half a page or more"

Re: Prostitution
now kids, lets settle down!! I'm kinda mixed on whether prostitution should be legalized, especially with having to pay taxes and all. But then again that refund check at the beginning of the next year would be nice. Or maybe an official uniform nationwide guideline for pricing would solve the problem. I know it would certainly help me, I keep running out of quarters! Who knew you had to give back change????

She made her point and I made mine. I frankly see no difference in my reminding what this thread is about and that most everywhere and everything in life there are "rip offs" So here we go again.

Re: Prostitution
Just another point of view.

Perhaps we can legalize prostitution, have it Federal Government controled---Give them Federal Illegal drugs and have a prostitue version of US DOT and FMCSA. [thier own nationwaide police force]

Re: Prostitution
I think they give a good service as there are some people you wouldn't want to talk to let alone sleep with, and these woman do, there are some men, no amount of money would be enough.
Just my point of view

People will always want sex so why not get something good out of it. The taxes from this could do so much good, especially in the health sector
