Your local celebrities
Ah...the local celebs, I'm talking about the business owners who make their own commercials using themselves, their pets, their kids, etc....really bad commercials!
I do get a Jeff City and a Columbia station, but for the most part...I'm talking about St. Louis and it's grand landmark the Arch.
They always do this chessy job of super imposing themselves sitting, standing or dancing on the Arch, or as the Queen of Carpets does, she flies around and through the Arch on her "magic flying carpet"
Then there's the car sales lady, glo-white skinny older lady wearing a side ways baseball cap who does a silly "rap" song with her dogs.
I suppose every city has this kinda thing going on?
Got any local cheese to share?

I get the impression this is an american thing. Our local businessmen do not use themselves. They use voice over men and actors.

Re: Your local celebrities
we have a commercial here for a fairly local modular home builder. They started using their grandaughter when she was 4, shes now 19 & still doing them, Then there is the car dealer who makes his own & does a horrible job.

Oh, you don't know what you're missing! These commercials are so cheesy and so low budget.
Becky, The Queen of Carpets is somethiing to see, she wears long formals or ball gowns and a tiara, flaps her arms for "balance" while she flies her magic carpet around the Arch hawking the newest and best deals in home flooring.
There is an appliance store that was famous at one time for the owners (The Slymn Brothers) doing their own commercials while rolling around their showroom on roller skates and nope, they were not any good at skating.

First time I went to the States I couldn't believe my eyes. I can't understand how people with enough sense to run successful businesses could have such poor judgement.
It never happens over here, although in the 70s we did get Victor Kyam advertising Remington "The shave was so good I bought the company". Maybe that's where they all got the idea.

Actually, I just love em'...they're so tacky and low budget. Totally silly.
Allot of these are done by family run businesses and of course include the families all the way down to the grandchildren and house pets.
Becky the Queen of Carpets, hell she's been around for ages now. (Her co-star, the Princess of Tiles, has long since retired from the small screen)
