Same Sex Marriages
A very dear and long term gay male friend of mine, is set to marry his partner in August. Whilst, I love to see him so 'loved up' and happy, I still can't quite get my head around it? I just dont see that same sex marriages really make sense. Am I being old fashioned?

Re: Same Sex Marriages
Although they are minorites, there are so many different kinds of people in the world besides just us heterosexuals.
There are homosexuals, hermaphrodites, asexual I'm not sure of the correct medical term for it, but asexual...as in someone born without the major reproduction organs, and/or any sexual drive at all. It's very rare but these people still need and want love and warmth of other humans, just no sex.
My gay friend Mikey, he so should not have been born a male! All Mikey wants is what just about everyone wants...to find someone special, fall in love, and get married.
I've kinda gotten use to seeing male couples...I watch allot of HGTV and damn....those guys really know how to restore an 1800's Victorian!!

and Chazzy is right as ususal.
I support gay relationships..but wouldn't vote for it as an amendment or mandate of any sort..just do it and don't worry about us heteros....we got enuff on our hands to do with each other...
i guess its just an acceptance thing....maturity maybe...(gosh, don't tell that to anyone)

Re: Same Sex Marriages
While this goes against most religious belifs, I say why not?
If two people truly love one another then I think it's ok.
Think about this however. I feel it''s the lawyers trying to get gay marriages leagalized everywhere. why? so they can get the proceeds from divorces.

Re: Same Sex Marriages
I see it as a simple thing, Libby. Gay and lesbian people feel exactly the same way you and I feel about the opposite sex. Like, I think you are totally hot. So, they feel the same way, it just happens to be the same gender. Of course, marriage is not only about sex, it's just one component. But the principle is simply this: people love each and are attracted to each other in a gajillion different ways and they want to share their lives together.

Re: Same Sex Marriages
For a period of time when in the womb, we are all the same, it's only at at crucial time during the gestation that certain hormones and signals declare that those two little organs become ovaries or testicles, and that other organ becomes either a clitoris or penis....but up until that point.....we're all exactly the same.

Re: Same Sex Marriages
I don't have a problem with a legal and emotional relationship...or as one of the celebrations I was invited to was called a "Unity Ceremony." I am a Christian so I do have a bit of a difficult time calling it a marriage since it is defined between a man and a woman. Many of my friends that are gay or lesbian actually agree with my views. I think they should be recognized as a couple. I guess really, you say tomato...I say tomato, it is what it is no matter what its called.

Re: Same Sex Marriages
If two people are in love they should be able to show it and what better way then a marriage or a joining together.
And we all need those 10 toasters and 16 coffee makers that make any wedding complete!!!

Re: Same Sex Marriages
Sorry Lib, but I think you are old fashioned in your thinking too.
Straight couples get married cos they want to spend the rest of their lives together, not only to propogate the earth either...some couples choose not to have children, therefore, their union in some eyes is a waste of time. Not in ours. whether it be straight couples or gay /lesbian couples, if they have met someone who fulfills them emotionally and spiritually then go for it and be happy.

Love is love! You can't explain it but you know it when you got it! Why shouldn't gay couples be as miserable as the rest of us straight couples?
Gay couples that insist on the right to be married, should understand that the institution of marriage is much more than a simple decree, a political victory of sorts or a recognition of that couple as being mainstream. That couple is under the same rules as straight couples, such as divorce, alimony and child support. Gay marriage is not a live-in situation but a lifetime commitment!
"I am not gay nor have I ever been gay ".....
