Wrap your mind around this..........
Do you know that there are at least 100 billion stars in our galaxie (the Milky Way) and there are at least 70 billion (that's a shit load of zeros) galaxies in the observable universe. That totals up to 70 sextillion stars with undoubtedly planets orbiting them. Some of those planets could be just the right distance from those very stars (suns), not too hot, not too cold, to sustain some sort of intelligent life forms.
Do you believe that earth is the only place in this massive universe that could harbor intelligent life?

Another facet of this universe and it's great magnitude is the fact that upon gazing at those very stars, the fact that the light from some of those very stars, took millions and even billions of years to reach earth! That means that when you look at those images, you are gazing into the past.......millions and billions of years ago!! It becomes very hard to deal in real time events when you stop and think about it..........
Space travel at or near the speed of light (186,000 miles/second), would take at least 4 years one way, to reach the nearest star (Alpha Centauri) in the MILKY WAY!! Because the light from that star is so bright, it obscures images, from the orbiting space telescopes, of possible planets orbiting that star.
Astronauts reaching that star system, might get there and find there are no planets similar to earth....a somwhat rocky surface, just the right distance from it's sun with water on it's surface. A journey like that could take at least 20 years or so.....just to find there is no life of any kind!!

I'm not so much in favor of the "right distance, right conditions" theory... Why should a species need oxygen to survive, or temperatures like the ones we have here? Perhaps, in some other spot of universe, different laws of physics or biology apply. Maybe there are civilizations out there that breathe CO2 and have a completely different structure from us.
Also, I believe that life in the form of bacteria exists much closer than we believe, even in our solar system.

It makes sense to me...perhaps we are the less evolved species...hopefully as we do evolve we will find real peace, cures for cancer, etc. We are challenged to find new and better ways...after all sex used to be only something you could do in person (by your self or with another). Now there is phone sex which progressed into cybersex ...I'm certain somewhere out there is virtual reality sex...who knows. We are only limited by the obstacles in our mind.

I have to hope that any life extra terrestrial life form that is encountered, would be more evolved than the 5 billion plus semi-miserable war torn souls that inhabit this 7886 mile diameter sphere that that we're on.
