why are we obsessed with smell
Any one remember that ALPPACINO movie SCENT OF A WOMEN.I simply never get enough from watching it!
when I was a kid ,at school. The bell rings,I use to hide under the table,so that after every one and my sexy teacher leaves.I go like a sniffing dog smelling her chair!&any object she had left behind as for example a tissue!
I still consider that was a crazy thing to do but they had never caught me!
And in any ex relationships I had never managed to make love or sex!call it whatever!without knowing the smell behind her ears.

Of all our senses, smell is the most primative and hence the most closely integrated into our nervous systems. That's why smells have a power to invoke memories and emotions far more strongly than other senses.

Re: why are we obsessed with smell
I knew this married woman , her and her family moved quite a bit and the first thing she always did when she moved into a new home was plant honeysuckle next to the back door..
Her husband always used the back door when he came home, and for some reason, the scent of honeysuckle was an aphrodisiac for him.

Re: why are we obsessed with smell
Wandering's spot on. Our need for smell goes way back to when we were primitive hunter gatherers. We relied on it the same as animals do today... for hunting, territory, mating etc.
Ever thought why you stop being able to smell a particular odour after a while? It's a deliberate thing our brain does. Back as primitive man, if all smells remained active we would not be able to smell potential dangers such as predators or enemies. Those danger signs would be confused with other scents. So something that makes us enjoy so many smells today is actually designed to protect us.
