Deer season
Any deer hunters?
Geez...deer season is such a big thing around here, the factories are half empty with people who schedule their vacation time around it, the cafes, diners, gas stations open at like..around 3am to accomdate the hunters, the markets run big sales on all your biscuit and gravy neeeds, even the women folk who don't hunt take time off from their jobs just to feed their hunter hubbies and his hunting buddies.Anxious and proud fathers taking their offspring out for the first time...

Re: Deer season
It's not something I could do myself...I could pet 'em, feed 'em, spoil 'em, and give them a cute name, but shoot 'em, nope!....but I sure understand the need for the deer season from a conservationist point of view. It must be done!
There are programs here where the deer meat is donated to the local food pantries and it such a big family bonding thing too, a part of the midwest heritage.

Re: Deer season
It's not easy to kill a deer with a car...I've got several huge deer dents in my old car...the darn things just jump up and run off!
They seem to do more damage to my car, than my car does to them!

I spent the weekend with friends and family in Warsaw this last weekend. While the men got up at 3am to go hunting we ladies slept in and when we got up we started cooking for when the hunters came back in the evening. One thing different for me this season is the people that I spent the opening weekend with like to party . We ladies opened the keg while the men were out hunting and had our fun while we were cooking. Oh yeah, and the drive home was so awesome. The trees were so beautiful with all the colors of fall.

Re: Deer season
I love to deer hunt. I've been going since I was old enough to keep both ends of the rifle off the ground at the same time. I love a good deer steak or pot venison chilli or deer jerky. But the best part of hunting, for me anyway is getting out in the woods. The fresh, crisp, mountain air,(yes we have mountains in Oklahoma). Stirring up the embers of the previous evenings fire and getting a fire going. Building a pot of coffee then sitting around drinking scolding coffee until just before sunrise. Then trekking out into the woods to our favorite spot. I really don't care if I get a deer or not, just being out in the mountains is just as enjoyable.

Always thought I would love the hunt, but like Chazzy don't think I could shoot em. I'd have to find something else to do in the woods while all were shooting
I'd enjoy the meal though

Re: Deer season
I couldn't eat one either and certainly could never kill one. I suppose it has to be done, but i don't like it when any animal is killed. I feel guilty eating chicken

Re: Deer season
Bow season is about to open now...anyone bow hunt?
Got allot of bow hunters in this area, it almost seems like a whole different kind of hunter really, it's like it's all about the ritual and tradition of doing things like their ancestors and the natives did long ago, more of a "man and nature" thing.

Actually, bow & black powder is all i use. To damn easy shooting a deer with a hi power at 300 yards. I use a bow, so i gotta get them to 20 yards. No sport with a hi power
