No PDA in schools?
When I first heard about that little girl getting detention for hugging a friend at school, I was mad as hell. Then I talked to my sister, a middle school principal in South Carolina, about this very thing. She said that the kids will spend a lot of time milling about and socializing (hugging, ect.) between classes in the hallway and show up late to their next class thereby disrupting that class.
My sister is not a stickler for rules but she has a point. Half of me thinks it's a silly rule and the other half.......

Re: No PDA in schools?
i feel if the hugging does not interfere with school, learning, attendance, etc. whats wrong with it. but if it leads to showing of affection , i draw the line. a childs mind is not all there when it comes time to learn.

Re: No PDA in schools?
I think its foolish. If they are having trouble with kids getting to class late, then they just might want to look at some other things that may be the cause. Who is monitoring the hallways?

Re: No PDA in schools?
In my school if a child is late for a lesson and doesn't have a good reason they get detention. They have a 5 minute ley way. The only way they don't get the detention is if they have a red slip from me, and that is the only way to get away with being late!!!
I'm quite relaxed with my students, but i have to say when i'm in the classroom, a late student does disrupt the class.
